Supporting your child’s health and wellbeing naturally

Finding the right support for your child can feel overwhelming. And this is a very challenging world to be growing up in. Depending on your child, their age, whether they have additional needs, or are having particular challenges, they may or may not want to, or be able to, articulate their discomfort, distress or pain to you. Children often develop physical symptoms in line with their nervous system responses such as “tummy ache” or behavioural issues when there is a deeper cause. For example, nocturnal enuresis after a divorce or separation of their parents.

You can read about my experiences with my son on the About Me page.

Whatever the issue, the modalities I work with are safe and effective for children and teens. They work well with talk therapies and do not interfere with interventions that your primary healthcare provider may suggest. From children with non verbal autism, physical injuries, to emotional upsets at school, intrusive thoughts, to teenagers who are on anti-depressants, or having exam stress, I have worked with children who present with a range of challenges.

If you’re concerned about your child’s health:

If you’re worried about your child, please see your primary healthcare provider for a diagnosis and suggestions. This then outlines a set of options for you. Whilst some doctors are happy to suggest alternative therapies for support, others may not. It’s important as a parent that you are comfortable with the approach you decide to take for your child and do not feel pressured to medicate or “fix” your child.

What happens in a session:

I’ll usually take the child’s case history before the session. This may be over email or on a phone call. This is so the parent can communicate openly about their concerns on behaviours or maintaining causes in their environment that may be contributing to the symptoms.

When you see me I’ll interact / speak to your child, and explain what I’ll be doing. Opportunity is given for the child to communicate anything they wish to. Older children may like to speak for themselves.

Some children like their parent to read to them during the session, others prefer it if they don’t. Both options are fine. If your child requires headphones, music or a comfort toy you are welcome to bring them along.

The child will lie on the therapy couch, all work is done fully clothed and a light touch is applied to certain parts of the body and head. Sessions can last between 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your child. They may fall asleep during the session or on the way home.
